Lord it’s good to sing.

To let the music and the words mean something

Our love for you  to bubble up from the heart

And turn words and music into praise.

Lord, it’s  good to sing together…

To come from our own place, our own life our own reasons to be glad…or our own place of pain or anxiety

And with others around us

To let words and music become healing and powerful

Touching and transforming..

So that because we have sung and sung together

We feel surer and stronger and upheld and blessed.

Lord, there are some people who were told long ago

When they were children

That they could not sing

And so they don’t sing…

We ask forgiveness for those who told them this terrible lie

And we thank you that you hear their singing

These people who supposedly can’t sing…

And you hear it

Beautiful and precious and full of praise…

Together we will sing the wondrous story…

Lord how can a place of such beauty and plenty

Become a place of danger and want?

Your world is rich in resources, in loveliness, in reasons to be curious, in large things and small things…

And somehow…though you trusted us to steward it…care for it…honour it…

We have filled with the noise of battle and destruction

We have rampaged through it with our machines and our greed.

And we have taken people’s lives…people with names…people with talents…people who are sacred

And we have let them go hungry…be ignorant…be in unnecessary pain…

~We have broken them…used them…neglected them…and wasted their potential…

Lord, how can all this be?

Lord, how did this happen?

Lord, we need you to save us…

We need you to save this wonderful world…and all the wonderful people in it…

Lord, show us what to do…to bring you in…

And though we can’t change the world tomorrow by ourselves

We can invite you in to our story…to our life…to our heart…

Then there will be hope.

It is a good sound

The Amen of your people…

The humble hope that it will be

As you will

In our life

In your world

As one your people seek the victory of your way

As one we join to celebrate the goodness  of your love

Together we wonder your grace and forgiveness

All across the world

Your church as one

Praises you

Seeks you

And is willing to serve you…

Let the Amen

Sound from your people again…

From here in this place

From the deepest chamber of our heart

We say we are your people

And we will do your will…

Lord, there is so much we don’t understand

Such a lot we don’t know

About how the world works

About who we are and how we work

And especially we struggle

To understand you

To find the right words

That will somehow describe the indescribable

We try

Our poets try

Our hymn writers try

Our ministers try

But deep down we know

Your mystery remains

And our words are stumbling rambling inadequate

But still we sing

Still we talk

Still we search…

And when we are completely lost

You come to us in Jesus

And speak your last and final and perfect word…

Lord, help us move towards understanding

And beyond understanding

To worshipping…

OUR Father…

For those who grieve…in our community and fellowship …and they are many  we pray today

For those who worry…in our community and fellowship…and they are many….we pray today…

For those under pressure…in our community and fellowship…and they are many….we pray today…

For those we know and carry in our heart –

We pray today…

For governments and men and women of influence and power we pray today…

And for ourselves…wherever we are on our journey…we need you

And so for ourselves we pray…

To speak to a society where nothing is shocking, where the citadels of morality have been crumbling and shaky for as long as a generation can remember, to speak to such a society about the beauty of holiness, and the creative force of goodness, is to need to translate foreign concepts into themes they can understand.

For many, they are so trapped by what they have become, they lose the will to escape.

Father –

You love us and gave us life

You gave us a world full of mystery and beauty

And we thank you for it…

Lord Jesus Christ,

Whose love knows no limit

Whose life teaches us

The power of forgiveness

And the healing victory of mercy

We thank you for coming among us

Holy Spirit

We feel your call deep inside us

You show us what is true and what is false

In ourselves

And in the world

And when our strength fails us

You speak strength to our heart

The One God

Father Son and Holy Spirit

We bring our worship

Fragile, fallen, faltering though we sometimes are

We bring our worship.

We bring our need

For it is great

And we bring our hearts

For that is true worship

That is the only true worship…

We shelter in the shadow of your love

And we wait upon your presence

Lord help us to be one community of love

Help us to find a sweet agreement

Hold the nations of the world close to your heart

Teach us the ways of peace

Show us how to share your world

When our hearts grow hard

And we become indifferent to the plight of others

Show us your compassion

And fill us with your truth

When we are too weary and self absorbed

To be bothered

Inspire us with your spirit of truth

To the kind of service

The kind of caring

That makes things better for all your children

We pray for Christian Aid

Its work

And its workers

We know Lord

That you have no time for assemblies and fruitless debates

That you want justice

That you hear the cry of the poor…

Show us Lord, how to be your church…

Hear our silent personal prayers now…
