FUTURE MINISTRY AT BELHAVEN: As many of you may be aware, the Church of Scotland as a denomination, is going through a period of considerable change arising mainly from reduced funds associated with the pandemic.  In response to this situation, the recent General Assembly agreed a new Presbytery Mission Plan which will see the number of charges in the Church cut to 600, plus 60 vacancies, by 2025.  This has been translated into an allocation of ministerial posts to Presbyteries throughout the denomination, with the requirement that each Presbytery constructs a Plan – by end 2022 – to set out how they propose to deploy the ministerial resources allocated.  In practice, this means the Presbytery Plan has to be agreed before any new ministerial appointments can be made.

This is the background against which decisions will have to be made about the future ministry at Belhaven.  Given the ongoing Presbytery Planning process we will not be able quickly to advertise for a new minister.  In addition, the shape of the ministry at Belhaven may well have to change.  No decisions have been made on these issues and they are unlikely to be made in the near future; discussions are being held between Kirk Session and Presbytery representatives as a precursor to wider discussion both in KS and subsequently with members of the congregation with a view to reaching an agreed way forward.  This process will take time; our clear aim will be to be as inclusive as possible in coming to decisions on our future ministry.

Lastly, I should add that churches and presbyteries throughout the denomination are facing the same issues – as are the other churches in the Dunbar area.

PRAYING FOR THE LEADERS IN OUR CHURCH: Given the changes noted in the previous item, praying for Church leaders – our own leaders here at Belhaven but also those throughout the denomination and indeed beyond – is more important than ever in seeking God’s will for the future. We can all support our leaders by praying for them.  Some of us gather to do that each Wednesday morning, in the Stables at Belhaven at 9:00.  Please consider joining us - you could come once in a while or come frequently.  For more information, ask Alison Murray 07823469472 or This email address is being protected from spambots. DISTRICT VOLUNTEERS:  We are still looking for one or two more volunteers to help in the districts.  As well as helping with distributing regular information from the Church (about 3 or 4 per Year) the main function is to keep in touch with members and adherents in the district – listening to them, identifying any pastoral needs and conveying information to the pastoral team.  If you would like to volunteer to do this, please contact me by email This email address is being protected from spambots. JUNGLE ADVENTURES HOLIDAY CLUB: Please continue to remember the Holiday Club in your prayers. At least 67 families with more than 125 children will be involved.  Please also remember the leaders. Contact Kathryn Robertson at e-mail This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for further information.

Also, please continue to remember that the holiday club has been chosen to do the token scheme at Haddington Tesco to help fund next year's Holiday club. When you shop there, you receive a token and you can 'vote' for Dunbar Area Christian Youth Project (DACYP) by putting your token in a slot after you've done your shopping. Voting has started and will continue until 30th September 2021. The project with the highest number of votes will receive £1,500, the second placed project £1,000, and the third placed project £500. So, we are guaranteed to receive £500, but do vote for us if you shop at Tesco in Haddington, and help spread the word!

BOTTLE TOPS AND PLASTIC CARTONS:  We still require these for fund-raising.  As well as plastic bottle tops, ice-cream cartons and the like can also help in raising money.  Why not collect to bottle tops in the cartons – as per the picture?
